Searching for Stories – a documentary masterclass
Producer/Director Garret Daly leads a masterclass in documentary making. Drawing on over 15 years experience he will demonstrate the skills, research and qualities required to tell the perfect story. People interested in devolving short form or feature length documentaries will find this session very beneficial. Areas covered include treatments, structure, contributor relationships and dealing with broadcasters.
Garret Daly is an award winning documentary maker. His work has screened on all Irish broadcast channels and a number of channels abroad. Some of his credits include ‘A Grand Experience’ feature documentary, the award winning ‘Who is Dervla Murphy?’ feature, various short films and a TV3 series on the GAA. His work has screened at the following film festivals: Cork, Galway, Fingal, Underground, Banff, IFI, Dingle, LIT, London and Sheffield. He is the managing director of

Guest Speaker – DSLR Film Making with Stephen Hall


As a former LIT Film Festival Award Winner and Current LIT Video & Sound Student, Stephen is currently making waves in the Limerick Film Community as a film maker with extensive talent using DLSR camera.

Stephen will take audience members through his experience in using DLSR equipment and how he works using the latest example of his work, ‘Upgrade’ which has been nominated for a number of awards in this years competition namely the Best Overall Short Film.

The Summit’ Masterclass
Join Director/Producer Nick Ryan with Steve O’Reilly DOP for an insight into the making of the multi award winning documentary ‘The Summit’ as featured at Sundance Festival 2013. Nick & Steve will talk through the process with excerpts from the film and behind the scenes footage sharing their experience of telling the story of Irish climber Ger McDonnell who was tragically killed in an attempt to climb K2.

Nick Ryan will join Steve O’Reilly DOP to host a hands on workshop on Canon EOS DSLR and Cinema EOS cameras. Steve was DOP on ‘The Summit’ with Robbie Ryan. With 18 years experience in the industry, shooting and directing many TV series, documentaries and commercials, including the first Irish TV series ‘Adoption Storires’ TV3 shot entirely on Canon EOS 5DMarkII. The workshop will include: Recommended settings for video, codec and sensor explanations, lens recommendations, essential and optional accessories, sound recording and microphones, media management, and how to get the best from your system from: EOS 650D, to EOS C300.

Description: The highlight of the festival is the now highly anticipated Awards Show at the Millennium Theatre. This year the Foyer will be dressed up in a movie set including a red carpet, press pit for interviews and vox-pops, entrance music and entertainment etc.

The awards night is sponsored by Canon Ireland, Whelan Cameras, Peli Ireland, George Boutique Hotel, Limerick Institute of Technology, Limerick School of Art and Design, The Gathering Ireland 2013 and Si-Fi. The awards night will be recorded by the Video And Sound Students of LIT and the programme will also be streamed live on a dedicated website.
